It is becoming more and more difficult to get permits. This year in 2019 almost all of the permits were sold out for the high demand weeks of April, May, June and July within the 1st day of going on sale. By the end of March 2020, the permits were almost completely sold out until mid September! , the Peruvian Tourism Board introduced a permit system that allows only a limited number of people (500) to hike the trail each day. The 500 daily permits include the porters, cooks, and guides who support the tour groups, leaving just 200 permits available for tourists.
This year the permits for 2020 went on sale on the 1st of October 2019. It will probably be the same in 2020 for the permits of 2021. If you wait you may loose out!
